Pokemon RBY. Pokemon Snap was amazing though, especially as like the first 3D Pokemon game. It was mindblowing at the time.

Probably one of the best examples of a casual. I played Red, loved it, played all the other N64 spin offs, watched some of the first season of the anime, first three movies, played Silver, got into the tcg without really knowing how to play card games.

And then when Gen III came out I stopped and basically never touched new entries in the series.

This, except with more anime up through some of Johto.

Bonus Question: What's the most bizarre decision you've seen a sequel make?

As much as I like the game, SMW2: Yoshi's Island is an even weirder sequel than SMB2. I think the entire game is a bizarre (but wonderful) decision.

Bonus Question: What's the closest you've come to beating a game before dropping it?

Every Trails in the Sky game so far. I stop right before the endgame and pick them back up months later when I don't have the guilt or stressful urge to go back and do everything ever and never leave their world. Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword are another two. The first is like 95% complete in story and collection, and the second my Wii+ remote died (like battery acid explosion died) before I beat the final boss and haven't bothered to pick up a new one.

Bonus Question: What is your favorite aspect of Animal Crossing?

The collectathon. Bugs, fishing, furniture, clothes, fossils. I loved donating to the museum. I loved playing every day to see what new items were in stock or what cool things could be dug up.

Bonus Question: What is your favorite multiplayer series?

Smash Bros. If it were individual games, I might say Team Fortress 2, Perfect Dark, or Heroes of the Storm, but Smash Bros. hasn't done wrong yet.

Excellent and interesting list. Didn't realize Spelunky was that kind of game and now I kind of sort of both want to play it and avoid it entirely because of imminent frustration.

I've also never heard of Tales of Maj'Eyal, but now I want to try it. Might pick it up soon or wait to see if I get into a key topic early (for once). The look of it reminds me of those old BYOND games or an updated Castle of the Winds.

Really interesting list. Love all the Ace Attorney and Metroid fare. I can also agree with others from pages ago that I don't think Danganronpa would be your thing. My favorite parts are the socializing and anime parts, but the cases and how the game treats/runs trials makes me miss Ace Attorney much more than I expected going in.

I took a like, year break between FC and SC for some reason...

Then I played SC, 3rd, and started Cold Steel (which I am playing currently) in the span of like 2 weeks so YMMV imo

I've been consistently weird. I remember getting towards the end of FC before quitting and came back a few months later. Then I started up SC, got towards the end, and quit playing for a year. Immediately start up The 3rd right after and I quit right before the endgame back in July.

Just started it up again last night where I left off. It's been a pattern, and I think it's because I need to forget about all the stuff I could do or didn't do or want to do until that all drains from my system and memory and I can go back and play the damn game.

I remember quitting The 3rd because I knew the endgame was coming up and I wanted to make sure that I levelled everyone up completely in the Abyss, fill out every entry of the Bestiary, make completely sure who I want to spend Zemurian Ore on, get all the items I can off the Abyss monsters, make sure I'm ready for Star Door 15, etc. etc. etc.. I went back in, did the deed, and am already almost done.

Also, I wasn't ready for Star Door 15. O_O O_O O_O

- What a beautiful looking game and wonderful take on the many anxieties and forms of depression there are. It wasn't exceedingly difficult, but I had a lot of problems with parts that was more due to my own lack of coordination than any flaws in the game (aside from one or two places where camera shifts made for a lot of trial and error). The characters are well done, the lore is interesting, and the gameplay is good. I don't know how memorable I'll find it in the long run, but for what it was, it was solid.

Bonus Question: What's your least favorite RPG battle system?

- Vagrant Story is a solid answer. I have the same problems, and its just not fun enough to keep on with it past the dungeon. I appreciate the efforts and the insane tactical strategy and customizing that goes in, but in practice it just... it feels off.

However, the one that springs most to mind is Sword of Mana for GBA. It's a kind of maybe fun action RPG in the Seiken Densetsu series, but holy cow is it punishing if you use the wrong weapon or don't level things, and grinding is a pain in the ass.

Bonus Question: What's the most boring game you've ever played?
- The most recent one that comes to mind is Punch Club since it's basically a clicker in disguise. Don't know about most boring ever. I know a lot of Final Fantasy games tend to get really boring in places.

Bonus Question: Do you prefer being the hider or the seeker?
- The hider, depending on the kind of hide-and-seek it is. Straight up 'one person searches for those who are hidden' is fun to just see how long it takes someone to find me. I once sat in a closet for an hour before heading out to see my seeker gave up and started watching TV (to be fair, he did look in my location two or three times). I felt very proud.

Other kinds of hide-and-seek, like zombie tag where those you find also turn into seekers or ones where you have to outwit the seeker/s and get to a designated base to achieve victory are the most fun. I love figuring out the best opportunities to sneak to different cover and usually my turns as seeker to better plan out better hiding routes to victory. And I love spending the first two rounds hiding really really well and in unconventional places only to spend my third or fourth game hiding right near the start. I wish I remembered the rules better, but there were some really good games with both sight-losses, tag-losses, and zombie-tag-losses (one man against nine seekers with one minute left? Game on.)

114. Bart's Nightmare
- This was one of my most rented games. Bartzilla and Indiana Bart levels were nightmarish, but I have fond memories of Bartman, the virus level, and trying to expand my Zs as much as possible.

- Lord of the Rings Online was amazing, but I don't know how much that would count under this category. Based on a movie/TV Show... Oh, duh, Goldeneye.

Justice League Task Force (SNES). Fastest turnaround on a game from open to trade-in. Christmas present, about an hour of attempted gameplay, and then sold to Funcoland the very next day. Swore off buying any DC comics for years in large part because of this game.

Bonus Question: What is the most disappointed you have ever been by a game?

There have definitely been a number over the years. Beyond Good & Evil is the most recent in many of the same ways Twilight Princess was a big disappointment, but it wasn't a bad experience in the least. Punch Club seemed like it would be fun, but quickly turned into a horribly mismanaged grind with bad mechanics. And I have yet to play FFXIII, FFXV, and MGSV to rule on those, but since my expectations are pretty tempered I don't think they'll be too bad.

Hmm...

My first game was also the only game I remember finishing. My wife was Maria and only a handful of townspeople showed up for my year three celebration. It was a quiet party, and I remember it for how little I really interacted with the town. I did quite enjoy visiting the library and talking with the cute shy girl who worked the desk, but with every subsequent playthrough, I spent more time trying to woo everyone in sight and going to the library and Mayor's house on the other side of town usually was too out of the way to go to consistently or before close.

The more I think about my future playthroughs, the less certain I am of who I would decide is my favorite girl. I would always end up marrying Elli or Karen, but I don't really know if that had as much to do with how much I liked them (which I honestly still do) and more how saving the vineyard and saving Ellen are directly tied to getting their hearts up as soon as possible. So most of my first year would be dedicated to these two (and Kai and Cliff) at the expense of going to the farm and getting to know Ann.

It's tough. All four of them are really good. Maria's quiet, friendly, fun to see open up and smile as you meet with her every day to discuss books or bugs. But I also feel for Harris because he's such a hard worker and good friend, and I get depressed seeing him always at the bar when I marry Maria. All the other bachelors I don't give a damn about their romantic heartaches, but Harris... Maria's a special girl.

Elli's easily the cutest and best housewife mechanically, and I love her cakes. She's the one I most enjoy talking to. Karen's the hottest and getting our drinks on is the best. Ann... I should play again just to get to know Ann more because I love her spunky tomboy cheerfulness.

124.Monopoly (WhiteLens)


To be honest, Monopoly is probably the only game on this list I outright hate. I havent played it in years on purpose. Im not sure Ive ever legitimately finished a game of Monopoly. Its on my personal banned games list. If someone were to ask me to play Monopoly, I would feign illness or punch them in the face, whichever is easier. Sure, its fun enough the first few times around the board when everythings still open, buying railroads, getting Chance cards, and passing Go for a free 200 bucks.

However, once the properties start getting bought up, its a slow descent into madness (and I emphasize slow because this game takes forever if you dont cut corners) as you keep finding yourself in jail, desperately trying to roll two of the same number, and repeatedly cursing your luck because you could never land on Park Place or Boardwalk when no one owned them, but you land on one of them every single time around the board once someone else owns them. And if someone claims the dog piece before I can, heaven help you, because youve taken my one source of joy in this game other than the game giving me hope that if Pennybags can finish second in a beauty pageant, maybe I could, too. Id rather go bankrupt in real life than play an entire game of Monopoly. Im pretty sure I read a statistic somewhere that Monopoly is a top 5 cause of divorce in America, so please, protect your families and never play this game again.

Bonus Question: What is your least favorite board game?

I don't hate Monopoly, but I do hate how there are so many freaking themed boards for it. It's the same damn game every time no matter if its the Simpsons, Game of Thrones, Nintendo, Your Favorite Sports Team, it's the same mechanics, the same lots, the same cards, the same gameplay except with different pieces and a different coat of paint. Risk can have different maps or mission-based gameplay; Trivial Pursuit has different questions and knowledge; but there's zero reason to have more than one Monopoly board game, if you even need one in the first place.

Least Favorite? It's tough because there's a lot I haven't played in so long, and the ones I do get frustrated with are probably because I suck at them and not to do with the games themselves. If Operation counts, then probably that.
